The Outcast – Short Story School

I walk the empty soundless halls of my high school. The sounds of emptiness and silence ringing in my ears. I showed up late because I don’t have first period. My silky black hair swaying back and forth with every slow step I take to my first class. My backpack bouncing of my back.

All of a sudden I hear them, the so called “jocks” and “populars” heading in my direction. I forcefully slide my hand into my black skinnies and turn up my favorite band. I turn the corner and I get a face full of sweaty steroid using jock.

“Look who it is guys, emo boy”.

I walk around them and hurry up as I look at the clock in the hallway, seeing the bell is about to ring.

“Watch this” I hear one say over my music and as soon as I turn around a football hits me in between my eyes like a heat seeking missile locating its target. I collapse to the ground as soon as the bell rings. The once empty hallways were soon swarming with high schoolers, none of which even noticed me and my bleeding nose.

After leaving the nurses office I make my way, once again late for my class. I take the longer way to not only waste time but also to avoid people. I enter, eyes turning and locking on me.

“What’s your excuse this time Chris”?

“I had a bloody nose, I’m sorry I’m late” I quietly say moving to my seat in the very back of the room.

“Sure you did fag**t” I hear her mutter under her breath.

Finally everyone gathers onto the outside field for last period. I see everyone who has ever made fun of me in the seats. The band sets up and walks on stage. Music echoes through the crowd then my voice projects out of the speakers

“ I am who I am, It makes me happy, as long as I’m happy I don’t give a f*ck what anyone has to say about me, I’m Chris Motionless and I’m a human”.

Stunned faces of not only all 1,300 students but all 103 teachers lock on me as I start singing. This is who I am and nobody can change me.
