Chapter 2

Life just couldn’t have been better, she thought, as they walked down a stony path leading to the lake. It had been a little more than an hour, that they have been walking, and no one had broken the silence with any form of syllable. The silence seemed eloquent. If there was a paradise, it was here; it was now, and it was hers.

“What do you think about us?”

Neal asked, a tone of impatience misting up his voice. Her heart skipped a beat, What did he just say? Or did he say anything at all? Was he actually talking about them, or was it another of her illusions hell bent on ruining this perfect moment? She was utterly confused, and chose not to answer. Better be silent, than sorry.

“Anwesha!! What is wrong with you!!”

Neal stormed up in front of her.

“I…I …” was all that she could manage, all that her brain could come up with. She was plain traumatized, what was wrong with her? But to her utter dismay there wasn’t much space left for her wandering thoughts.

Neal continued,

“ You think you love me, don’t you? And you’ve been doing that for the past three and a half years now? Why, tell me why! Why indulge yourself in something that is not meant for you”

Everything seemed hazy, questions were more of an answer, she felt the world crumbling beside her, crushing her heart, soul and mind. She felt numb. Was she crying? Was she thinking of another answer? What was she waiting for all this time….She was plain clueless with so many possibilities clogging her sight; she was shattered.

She could hear his voice trailing off, how long has he been speaking, she wondered. She felt dizzy and needed to lie down. But Neal wouldn’t allow her that, would he? For she felt him shaking her, his warm hands tightly cupping her shoulders. She could faintly hear him say,

“Can you define your love? Can you at least choose?……Tell me can you wait a million lives to be with someone you love, or would you give up your lifetime for someone you love, someone who is no more!”

What was he talking about, did it even make any sense? She felt a jerk, and once again an answer was demanded, she stammered,

“I…….I……sorry…I ..can’t”.

Now she wasn’t making any sense either…

“Leave it” he said, too impatient to wait for another blurry phrase, “Its already dark, we should go back”

His tone was back to normal, saying this he let go of her, and it was then she realized a sharp pain that cringed her soul to the very core. The pain worsened as she watched him leave, she stood there alone, lost in solitude.

He had help her weave a magical evening, but left her with a bleeding heart, and an indelible wound…..only she didn’t know why.
