Geeta and Mala were best of friends in school. One day their teacher announced “Children, we have a fancy dress competition for you”. Geeta and Mala gave their names very enthusiastically. After school both of them went back home and told their mothers about the competition. The next day Geeta’s mom went to market to buy a costume for her daughter. Co incidentally she met Mala’s mom there, and she asked “Hi! How come you’re in the market?” Geeta’s mom replied “Oh! I am here to buy a costume for Geeta for the fancy dress competition.” “Oh! Even I am here for the same reason! Let’s shop together! Geeta’s mom nodded in agreement.

They entered a shop that sold beautiful costumes. The shop was full of colorful outfits, like that of a clown, a king, a soldier, a doctor, a fairy, etc. The shopkeeper saw the two ladies coming and he said “Welcome mam! What would you like to buy today?” “A fairy’s outfit.” both the ladies replied in unison. They looked at each other with astonishment. “Geeta said she wants to become a fairy!” Geeta’s mom said. “So did Mala, and she is going to be very upset if she sees someone else dress up like a fairy too.”

They were worried and did not know what to do, as nothing could be changed now. Mala’s mom said “Don’t worry I have an idea!” Both the ladies bought costumes and returned home. On the day of the competition, the teacher announced “Children, the fancy dress competition is about to begin shortly. Parents are requested to dress up their kids.” Geeta and Mala could barely control their excitement.

In the changing room Geeta’s mom took out a beautiful white gown and a magic wand. Geeta’s eyes lit up when she saw it. Mala’s mom brought a lovely pair of wings. Mala was thrilled to see it. Both the girls started to dress up. After sometime their mothers said “Both of you are ready for the competition.” Geeta asked with astonishment “But where are my wings? How can I be a fairy without wings?” Mala told her mom “I don’t have a magic wand, I am incomplete without it.” Her mother replied “My dear, both of you are fairies.” “But how is that possible?” Geeta asked. “Sweetheart every girl is a fairy but she needs another girl, a friend, a companion to make her realize it, someone who can give wings to her dreams and create magic in her life. Every girl needs such a true friend who can make her realize her strength and beauty and also that she is a fairy at heart, an angel!” Mala and Geeta hugged each other with tears in their eyes. Geeta said “Thanks mom, you made me realize such a wonderful thing about friendship.” At this moment the teacher announced the names of participants. When Mala and Geeta walked on stage, the audience was puzzled to see them in similar attires. Both the girls walked hand in hand and spoke the words of Geeta’s mother. Everybody in the audience loved the concept and there was thunderous applause for the girls. At the end of the event the winner was announced and the first prize went to ‘a fairy’.
