Two Poems – I will come back…

I will come back…

Her hair blew in the wind as I held her hands in mine,

I stared deep into her eyes,

I promised,

I will come back.

I gently brushed a strand away from her face,

Her eyes seemed hurt but she held my gaze,

It’s a bitter goodbye my love,

My war begins soon,

But I will come back to you,

I promise you this boon.

My fingers caressed the smooth skin beneath her eyes,

I ran my hands through her hair,

For a moment we stood there still,

As time passed us by,

In that brief silent moment all was said,

And I turned away without saying any goodbye.

In that moment,

I had lived,

A thousand lifetimes in her gaze,

And she knew when I turned away,

That I might never come to her again.

I looked back once at her from a distance,

A final adieu before I passed out of sight,

There she stood all tall and fair,

She didn’t wave me goodbye,

But her gaze was fixed on me,

She seemed to say,

I’ll hold you to your promise,

You have to come back,

One day we will stand here again.

My Forest of Black

Sometimes I walk alone,

In my forest of thoughts,

The trees and the leaves,

Underneath the sky and the strange smells,

It feel like home.

Sometimes I walk alone,

And the roads that I took,

Show me paths I didn’t,

My mind taunts me about the possibilities,

Of things that could have been,

The glorious windows of opportunity that I mistook,

For bland old openings,

With no possibilities,

Of ever being seen again.

Sometimes I walk alone,

On the path I chose,

Hoping for someone to come along,

A path that crossed mine long ago,

Parted some ways down the road.

I can’t go back,

I can’t look back,

The past is a hard thing to handle,

And I won’t waste my time on it again,

For I will always lose this battle.

This self depreciating forest of mine,

This beloved debilitating game I play,

My thoughts are like ponderous monotonous placards,

Thrust in my face with amazing alacrity,

Till there is nothing left but that one black thought,

That will keep me livid till I fade away.
